Annual Service Review Page 2 of 6 Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked the following range of information that we have received and asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (the aqaa) that was sent to us by the service. The aqaa is a self-assessment document that looks in detail at life in the home for the residents. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. What five people have told us about the home in survey forms sent back to us. What the home has told us about things that have happened in the service. We call this legal reporting of important events Regulation 37 notifications. They are a legal requirement of all registered services. The overall quality of care and rating for the service following the last key inspection. What has this told us about the service? When we did the last key inspection we found the following good outcomes for the residents when we inspected the service. We have quoted this extract from the last report as we think that these good outcomes still apply and may have improved even further:Residents are well supported by staff and their needs are well met. The residents benefit from a culture in the home that is supportive and caring. Care plans are informative and show how to meet residents needs. The staff are provided with training and development opportunities to assist and support them in their work. The environment and surrounding garden is homely and is satisfactorily maintained. In the aqaa document the home have explained really well how they have improved the ways that residents can make their views known in the home. We have quoted this extract: We have developed new person centered care plans and risk assessments in conjunction with our residents with regular reviews. We respect residents views. We hold regular residents meetings and ensure all staff read the minutes, we then action residents wishes where we can. We follow through complaints, as per procedure. We involve relatives in the home and with residents care, where residents wish us to. We send relatives, we have newsletters and invite them to events and meetings. We involve residents in satisfaction surveys with the assistance of the service user involvement worker. We send relatives satisfaction surveys. We involve residents in the recruitment of staff. We consult residents with menu planning. Residents participated in the World mental health day exhibition, this year includes art projects. We have yearly reviews of placements with team leaders, residents representatives, and care co-coordinators. We have regular involvement with our local G.P. surgery and community mental health team. We emphasise the importance of good joint working relationships with other departments in the Trust and other professionals, for the benefit of residents e.g. finance teams, appointees, Boots pharmacy. We involve our local trustee in the life of the home. All of the people who sent us survey forms told us they are really happy at the home. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 People said they knew who to complain to if they had a problem. We were also told by people that they didnt want to ever move from the home. The aqaa document also includes some really helpful information about how the home ensure that race, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion and belief are promoted and incorporated into what they do: We continue to follow our philosophy of care, which is that people with mental health needs have the same human value as anyone else and so the same rights. We listen to residents and record information that relates to equality and diversity and preferences in individuals care plans. We respect residents rights to privacy and respect, for example knowing if they prefer male or female assistance with personal care. We take into account the increasing age of our residents when planning activities in the home, for example not all wish to, or can manage long walks. We offer assistance to any resident who may wish to attend Church and festive occasions. Encourage and assist residents to vote if they wish to. All staff are trained in safeguarding vulnerable adults. We also work closely with human resources department and Occupational Health about staff health and disability. Aspects and Milestones Trust state that, whilst legislation sets out our legal obligations we aim to go beyond the basic requirements of law in pursuit of becoming an organization with a reputation of putting equal opportunities statements, policies and procedures into practice. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 10th December 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
