What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included, The annual quality assurance assessment AQAA that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment form that focuses on how well that service judges its outcomes are meeting residents needs. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. The action plan provided by the home which tells us how they have addressed the requirement made in the last inspection report. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that this care home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The service provided us with their action plan which gave us information about how they are addressing the one recommendation we made in the last inspection in 2008 and the Commission remains confident that the home will continue to work towards meeting standards. People using the service always tell us that they are happy with the care provided in this care home. One told us in our surveys that, There are some nice staff. We were also told in another survey that, the clients are looked after very well, given the support they need. Several said staff were very caring and friendly one visitor told us, when we asked what the home does well, they said the home provides, Good care and friendliness. Although another visitor hinted that this point about friendliness was variable. When we asked what could the home do better the reply was, Be more freindly, staff could be friendlier, there is no discipline, my relative sits in a chair all day with no-one to help her. Along these lines someone also suggested that there could be more outing and activities. These comments are passed on to the owners of the home to consider. Inevitably in an older home there were comments about the need for refurbishment but the person suggesting this also noted that as the home is due for closure, to be replaced by a modern care home, further work is unlikely other than to maintain comfort, hygiene and safety standards. The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
