What the care home does well People are happy living at the home. They are well cared for and have their needs met. They are supported to take control of their lives and make informed choices about what they do. People like the staff who work at the home. The staff are happy there and are well trained and supported. There have been changes to the environment, records, practices and the support people receive which have all improved the lives of people living there. The manager is committed to improving the service and has a good knowledge of the people who live there. The organisation is supportive and offers training and guidance to help keep people safe and have their needs met. The service is operated by the Regard Partnership. Current fees range from #1350 to #1800 per week. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 2 of 8 Brief description of the care home The Regard Partnership is a not-for-profit provider of residential and community services for people with learning disabilities and operates a number of other, similar services in the surrounding area. The home is situated in a pleasant residential area and has good access to public transport networks and shopping and community facilities. We made an unannounced inspection to the home on the 8th June 2010. We met people who live at the home, staff on duty and the manager. We spoke to people about their experiences. We looked at records, the environment and how people were supported and cared for. We wrote to the manager and asked her to complete a quality self assessment. We wrote to people who live at the home and staff and asked them to complete surveys about their experiences. We looked at all the other information we have received since the last inspection. We found that the service had improved since the last inspection with more emphasis on supporting people to take control of their lives. We found that people were happy at the home and the staff were happy working there. There had been improvements to the environment. The manager has been appointed since the last inspection. She demonstrated a good knowledge of the service and the people living there. She showed us that she was committed to making continuous improvements for each person. She had a good knowledge of legislative changes and how these would impact on the service.
