Clovelly House is a care home registered to provide personal care for a maximum of 39 residents who are over 65 years of age and who may have dementia. What the care home does well The feedback received from completed CQC surveys and from interviews with residents and staff was overwhelmingly positive. Residents and their representatives indicated that the care provided was of a high quality and residents had been treated with respect and dignity. Comments made include the following: "The staff are very kind and patient with all the residents." " The home is looking after us very well." " They have been consistently caring and understanding." " They take care of people. help them when they need help." "The service respects clients` dignity and provides consistently good quality care." The home was clean and tidy. Bedrooms were well furnished. Residents stated that theywere satisfied with the accommodation provided. The garden was colourful, attractive and seating had been provided. Staff were knowledgeable regarding the care of the residents. They were noted to be responsive and attentive towards residents. Comments made by staff in their completed CQC surveys were on the whole positive. They included the following : "Providing the highest standard of care to each individual." " High quality of care is always maintained." " Regular training given..giving high quality of care to residents." There is close liaison with social and healthcare professionals involved with residents. The feedback received from them indicated that they were of the opinion that residents were well cared for. Their comments included the following " The home respects clients` dignity." "Service provides emotional and practical support for it`s residents." "Clovelly supports in a positive way what are often challenging residents and reacts in their best interest.." The home benefits from stable and consistent management. The manager and her deputy were knowledgeable regarding the management of the home and the care of the residents and were responsive to suggestions made for improving the home. Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found: The quality rating for this service is THREE STAR. This means the people who use this service experience EXCELLENT quality outcomes. This inspection was carried out by Daniel Lim, Regulatory Inspector on 27 April 2010 and took a total of three hours to complete. We were assisted by the registered manager, Mrs F. Thorne. Five residents who were in the home during this inspection were interviewed. CQC completed surveys were received from sixteen residents, twelve social and healthcare professionals and seventeen stafft. These were overwhelmingly positive and indicated that residents were well cared for and the home was well managed. Statutory records were examined. These included the maintenance records, accident and incident records, complaints records and fire records of the home. These records were up to date. The premises including residents bedrooms, communal bathrooms, laundry, kitchen, garden and communal areas were inspected. They were well maintained. Four care staff were interviewed regarding the care of residents and other areas associated with their work. They were noted to be knowledgeable regarding their roles and responsibilities. The completed Annual Quality Assurance Assessment form or AQAA was received by us. Information provided in the assessment was used for this inspection.
