Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations and what other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was detailed and gave us all the information we needed. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. They told us how they are continuing to seek the views of the people who use the service and other stakeholders. The last inspection report following the key inspection on 25 June 2008 was very positive. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. The Service has an effective quality assurance system which demonstrates year on year improvement in the home. We have not received any complaint about the service since the last inspection. Eleven responses were received to surveys we sent out as part of this review. Two responses were received from people who live in the home, two from relatives, 3 from staff and two from GPs. Responses were very positive. Comments included: I am very happy with the home and the way Simlah cares for my son. My daughter seems very happy there. genuine care and regard for clients. They act promptly on health concerns. People who live at the home said, Atmosphere and general cleanliness is good. They support me to look smart. It is very clean and gives me good food. The service is aware of and promotes equality and diversity. They told us of the following improvements to the service since the last inspection: Part of the back garden has been slab paved to create more space and the garage has been converted into a quite room to create more recreational area. They have made referral for each service user to have an individual allocated advocate. They secure places in advance for service users to take up further education. The deputy has successfully completed the NVQ 4 programme and already started the RMA training. Relatives are more actively involved in service users care. The percentage of NVQ trained staff has increased by 15 . What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 25 June 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living in the home.
