Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The home returned the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. This included detailed information. It identified a number of areas where improvements have been made in the last year and others where further developments are either planned or would benefit service users. Our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. It is acknowledged that that AQAA was received in June 2009 and that further improvements may have been made since this date. Some of the improvements noted included: redecoration to various areas of the home including three of the bedrooms. Five staff have undertaken NVQ (national vocational qualification) training at level three. This now means that eleven of the twelve staff have completed NVQ at level two or above. Residents support plans are now in an easy to read format. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. The AQAA told us that the home has not received any complaints since the last inspection. As a result of the last key inspection carried out in September 2008 there were no requirements made. Two good practice recommendations were made and there was evidence in the AQAA that these recommendations have been addressed. A range of surveys were sent to the home to distribute. We received comments from two residents who were helped by staff to complete surveys, one from a relative who completed the survey on behalf of their relative in the home and one from a healthcare professional. The relative also asked that they be contacted. Comments from the relative were extremely positive and they felt that they could not Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 speak highly enough of the care and love that their relative receives in the home. They stated that it is fantastic and that they are totally happy that their relative is in the right place. When their relative visits with them at the weekends they are always keen to get back to Cregg na Ba. They also know that they can visit the home at any time. Staff who assisted residents to complete the form stated that the residents are unable to verbally communicate but that they use particular vocal sounds to indicate pleasure or unhappiness. They also stated that there are simplified procedures in place to assist residents who wish to make a complaint. Two comments made reference to there being a shortage of staff but that the home was actively recruiting to these positions. One comment was made about the road at the end of the drive that it is bumpy and it would be better if it was paved. It would be more comfortable. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We consider the quality rating of the home remains good since the last key inspection. We will do a key inspection by the end of September 2010 to review our assessment of the home. However, we reserve the right to revisit this decision if additional information is brought to our attention.
