What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: (1) The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. (2) Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. (3) What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. (4) The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. (5) Relevant information from other organisations. (6) What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? We received the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) before this service review, which gave us good information and it was very detailed with clear evidence of how Cremers Drift has continued to improve since the last key inspection. Meanwhile, completed questionnaires were returned to the Commission by three residents and three members of staff, all of which contained very positive responses and additional comments. All three residents said the service is very good and that Cremers Drift does everything well. The staff questionnaires were completed by the people who own and run the Home but also contained additional comments, which have been acknowledged such as: We run a very happy family home, with residents who have lived with us for seventeen, sixteen and nine years and have no desire to move on. It provides a secure and happy family way of life, offering complete privacy, respect and dignity. The residents lead a varied life, with complete inclusion in the Home and all that affects their lives, as well as full integration in the local community. All aspects are carried out to a high standard - we could perhaps have more outings but I am very proud of Cremers Drift and all that we have achieved and maintain. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 All three staff confirmed in their responses that they know what to do if someone has any concerns and all three residents confirmed they know how to make a complaint and who to talk to if they are not happy. In respect of how the staff and management at Cremers Drift take the views of people using the service into consideration, the manager told us in the AQAA that each resident completes a questionnaire each year, as part of the Homes Quality Assurance process, which covers aspects of the service and asks for their views and suggestions. Also, living as a family unit the residents can and do discuss their opinions on a daily basis. As a result of listening to the people living at Cremers Drift, some of the changes confirmed as having taken place have included providing one of the residents with the guidance and support to control the organisation of a large poly-tunnel in the garden. Meanwhile, areas in which Cremers Drift believe it does well over all were stated in the AQAA as: We provide a family environment in which residents have a safe, secure home providing for all of their needs. They have excellent inclusion in the local community and also enjoy a great deal of variety in outings, holidays, etc. Our residents also learn new skills in gardening, maintenance and computing which is assisted by our experienced staff. Areas in which Cremers Drift believe it has improved in the last twelve months were stated in the AQAA as: Further training has been completed and facilities have improved with one larger room provided and also a grass tennis court. Areas in which Cremers Drift feel it could do better were stated in the AQAA as: We will all be discussing the residents annual holiday for the coming year and are looking at a further variety of trips. Meanwhile, policies and procedures were noted as having been reviewed in January 2009. It was confirmed that no formal complaints or safeguarding referrals have been received since the last inspection and the Commissions opinion, following this Annual Service Review, is that Cremers Drift continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people living there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? There will be no changes to our inspection schedule following this review and a key inspection will be carried out by 6th February 2012. However, the service can be inspected at any time if the Commission have any concerns about the quality of the service or safety of the people using the service.
