Annual Service Review Page 2 of 6 None 3 0 1 0 2 0 0 7 Brief description of the service Crossways Nursing home is owned by Dr and Mrs Koa Hung Yu and is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection to provide nursing care for up to thirty-four older people who require care due to conditions associated with old age and dementia. There are also six beds funded by the local authority to provide intermediate care for people who are being assessed as to the level of support that they may need for the future. The Crossways is a large Edwardian three-storey house with a twelve bed roomed annexe which was added in 1998. Since Dr and Mrs Yu took over ownership of the home on 31st January 2003 a great deal of work has been put into the renewal of the fabric of the building to bring it in line with the National Minimum Standards. The home has surrounding gardens and is situated in a quiet residential street close to the centre of Sutton. There is a spacious dining room on the ground floor and two lounges. The kitchen and laundry areas are clean and well equipped. There is ample space for parking vehicles at the front of the property. The home is also close to rail and bus links. What did we do for this annual service review? To write this Annual Service Review looked at all of the information that we have received about the last key inspection that we undertook in October 2007. At that time we considered that the home provided good quality outcomes for those who used the service and rated it as a good, 2 star service. The information we have, includes the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) which is a self assessment submitted by the home. It tells us how well the service considers that it is meeting its aims and objectives and providing good outcomes for the people who live there. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. We looked at the information that we have about how well the service has managed any complaints. Also what they have told us about things that have happened in the home, these are called notifications and they are a legal requirement. We have also considered information that we have been given from other organisations and what people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? Our previous visits to the service and the information that we have been given has always supported our opinion that this home provides good quality outcomes for the people who live there. The home also provides intermediate care facilities and they have developed admission criteria so that there is an awareness of the services that can be provided. In the future they will be updating the written information that is available both about this and also for other prospective residents. This will help people to decide if the home will be suitable for them. We are told that the home intends to computerise residents records and has purchased a system to help them to do this. They hope that this will improve records and make it easier for staff to access information. They have also provided a computer for residents to use. Improvements to the home are continuing all the time in order to ensure that residents live in a safe comfortable environment which suits their needs. They are currently considering a further extension to the home and extra shower facilities are to be provided. Staff training continues to be given a high priority and the home is now accessing some of its training on line. Since our last inspection we have been made aware of two complaints about the service which were addressed according to the local authority safeguard inf procedures. Both of these were found to be unsubstantiated. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home tells us that they see complaints as a way of improving the service and improving the service that they provide. They are are trying to develop strategies which help staff to deal with any concerns that are raised in a positive way. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The information that we have supports our opinion that the home is still providing good quality outcomes for the people who live there and we will not be changing our inspection plan. During the next few months we will be sending out some satisfaction surveys to people who use the service and we will be undertaking a key inspection before the end of August 2010. We can continue to visit the home at any time if we receive any information that raises any concerns. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
