What the care home does well To summarise, home staff present appeared to be motivated and committed to the tasks supporting the resident service users. Three residents were seen briefly and found to be comfortable, clean and well presented with a clear programme and supported lifestyle with the focus on encouraging and supporting independence with a view to them establishing themselves in their own accommodation. Overall, residents appear to be treated with dignity and respect, supported by a well motivated management team and support staff who encourage and facilitate those in their care to reach their agreed tasks and objectives. What the care home could do better: One resident had a higher level of dependency and was seen to be considerable vulnerable with complex needs. These needs were being closely monitored by a weekly attendance at a specialist therapeutic psychotherapy unit. However, the resident seen to be a higher risk and a requirement is made to reflect that, specifically the individual must be monitored regularly whilst being in the home. This arrangement must be agreed between the care co-ordinater, the homes management team and the resident concerned. Record keeping should reflect closely: (a) that the individual has been seen in the home regularly and does not require support and (b) when the resident is away from the home and is known to be missing or not following a planned return to the home, this should be reported promptly to the relevant authorities. This system should provide a record that documents clearly the whereabouts or the current status of the resident concerned. Requirements and recommendations from this report Statutory Requirements Requirement 1 - Record keeping must be improved to show on care planning documentation who the author of the document is. Requirement 2 - Daily records must be improved to indicate where more highly dependent resident service users need to be monitored more regularly and their needs identified when they are both inside and outside the home. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: The reason for this inspection was to establish whether the requirements outstanding from the last inspection in June 2007 had been met and also to review generally whether the home required a full Key Inspection. Both requirements from the previous Key Inspection have been met. Miss Nerveza remains the Registered Manager but she has an Acting Agency Manager, Mr Ade Gbuyi who is managing the home whilst Miss Nerveza oversees the providers home in Albemarle Road due to the absence of a Registered Manager there. As a result of this random inspection 2 new requirements have been made, they are set out below in the section What the service could do better. Although the home is registered for seven residents, six residents are in occupation. The focus of the home is to provide a two year rehabilitation programme with the objective of the individual moving to semi independent or independent accommodation. The home receives support from the local community psychiatric unit at Blean Grove where CPNs are based and visit resident service users as required. All residents have a care co-ordinator, monitoring and review is via the Care Programme Approach, undertaken by a multi-disciplinary team including the resident and staff .
