Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection 20/11/07 or annual service review 6/11/08. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they have made further improvements since the last key inspection of 20/11/07, when they achieved the excellent quality rating. Key aspects of service improvement as detailed in the AQAA are: The provider tells us that they have continued to refurbish rooms to a high standard. The outside of the house and grounds have undergone a transformation making the grounds colourful and a pleasure to sit in with a new patio area and gazebo. The vegetable patch and house pets such as rabbits and doves have created a more independent and homely setting for the residents. The management are restructuring and reviewing the care plans, policies and procedures in the light of changing legislation to ensure that peoples needs are met. Pre admission assessments have been revised to provide more information gathering in light of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. The service now has a website so families and people have access to images, bed vacancies, staffing levels and links to the inspection report and service users guide, providing an insight into the home before visiting. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Assistant managers have been given additional office time to assist with care planning, supervisions and administration duties. All managers continue to receive training aimed at management. The training has encouraged strategies and allowed delegation this enabling a clear communication pathway. Social evenings have been organised for staff encouraging team building and bonding. Additional brokerage has been introduced creating greater scope and access to a wider range of training and funding. The pre admission needs assessment has been reviewed and rewritten to become more detailed with the identification of peoples needs. Staff have currently and are continuing with training in equality and diversity via Warwickshire College to help with an understanding in this area. Two new lay pastoral workers have been appointed and introduced to the home. Comments received from our surveys include: They do look after us well. I am happy with everything in the home. Activities and day trips are magnificent. Maintenance of dignity is done well. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. The service continues to focus on positive outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will do a key inspection by 20/11/2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
