Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA), that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information received from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. The information was detailed enough to enable us to understand how the home is developing services. The home has told us they have made several improvements to the physical environment including all new windows, an extension to the dementia unit creating more communal space, complete redecoration in one part of the home and reception area and new fire doors. Activities and pastimes that reflect the preferences of the people using the service have also been implemented. The home has provided us with evidence of very robust and positive attitudes towards staffing levels and staff training. A high percentage of staff have achieved a National Vocational Qualification at level II or above. Staff also receive annual safeguarding training and there are plans to train all staff about the Mental Capacity Act and deprivation of liberty. The home lets us know about things that have happened that may affect people using the service. They have told us they have received two complaints since the last inspection and they have kept us fully informed of the actions they have taken. They have shown they deal with complaints and concerns in a positive and timely way. The Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 service has also made one referral to the safeguarding adults team that was in line with their procedures. The home has told us they provide a high standard of care in a warm and friendly environment. They promote residents rights to privacy, dignity, respect, choice and fulfilment. They have told us they continually listen to the comments made by people using the service and respond and make changes if appropriate. The home have also told us what they feel they need to do to improve the service and how they intend to do this. Our judgement is that Eckling Grange continues to provide a good service and that they know what further changes they need to make in order to achieve continuous improvement. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 13 February 2012. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
