Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found:
We visited the home as there had been a number of concerns voiced about the care that people who were living there received. One concern was that tables were being placed in front of people who were sitting in chairs in the lounge so that they would be unable to walk around the home. We saw that a number of people did, in fact, have tables in front of them. The tables had various items on them including drinks, flowers, magazines and sweets. We spoke to a number of the people and they all were happy with the arrangement as was the relative of one of the ladies. Talking with those people also identified that they were unable to move without the use of moving and handling equipment. We saw people being transferred into wheelchairs by staff who used the equipment available to them. Observation and listening to the quiet conversations between the staff indicated that people were asking for and being taken to the toilet. We talked to one lady who was in the home for a short period whilst a care package was being developed to support her in her own home. She, like a number of other people, were positive about the care that they receive in the home. One said, Theyre very good here. We looked at the medication records of one of the people who live in the home; specifically for her creams. We saw that a number of her creams had been changed by the Doctor in recent weeks and a full record had been kept showing that they had been applied. Throughout the visit at least one member of staff was within view in the main lounge.
