What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection that we completed on 20 January 2009. At that time we judged that the people who were staying in the home, undergoing a treatment plan, were being provided with a good quality service. We planned to inspect the service again within two years and to complete a service review after one year. Prior to this review we asked the service to complete their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). The AQAA is a self-assessment document that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people receiving care and support from the agency. It also asks them to give us some numerical information about the service. We sent surveys to the home manager to be given out to people who are staying in the home. We have looked at what the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report dated 20 January 2009 was looked at to see if there was anything we had asked the service to address at that time. What has this told us about the service? The home manager sent us the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) within the timescale we had set. It was clear, had been completed in detail and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that, although the home is being affected by a lack of funding for placements, they have a plan of further improvements they intend to make. They told us that they are planning changes to the pre-admission process so that people can visit beforehand, that the home is refitted and refurbished as necessary and each persons care and support is kept under constant review. They told us about the diverse needs of the people who stay in the home and the peer group support that is encouraged to empower people to meet their goals and expectations. We sent out 10 survey forms to the home manager and we received five back. All five told us that they had been involved in the decision to move to the home and that they had been given enough information so they knew what the service had to offer. Three people said that the counselors were totally committed to ensuring that their treatment programme was successful - they are supportive and caring, they focus upon my needs to gain a good recovery programme and they care very much about our recovery. The home have continued to notify us of any events and have shown that they have managed situations well. We have not been notified of any concerns or complaints about Frenchay Mews. Following the last key inspection in January 2009, no requirements or recommendations were made. All assessed standards were being met. By analyzing the information in the AQAA, we are assured that this is still the case. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan as a result of this annual service review, and will do a key inspection before 20 January 2011. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
