What the care home does well The home continues to provide good outcomes for people in Key Outcome Areas. Health and personal care-One care plan was inspected. This was comprehensive and contained relevant risk assessments pertinent to the individual. People were observed looking clean and well cared for. Care plans were regularly audited, reviewed and evaluated. Input from health care professionals was evident and daily records confirmed that staff are meeting people`s needs and recording them. There are enough staff in the home to ensure people are comfortable, safe and have their care met in a dignified manner. Complaints and Protection-the home continue to monitor concerns and complaints. One issue has been recently investigated which was found to be unsubstantiated. Staff have received safeguarding training and information is available regarding `Whistle Blowing` procedures and how to make a safeguarding referral to social services. Management and Administration-The home is run in the best interest of people using the service. The manager is open, friendly and professional. She regularly chats with people to ensure they are happy with the care they receive. A quality assurance system is in place where audits of care systems take place. Meetings with staff, people using the service and their relatives are regular occurences. Questionnaires will be sent out to people in due course to find out how the service can improve. The home is a large detached property with well-maintained grounds. Service users can access the facilities in Fulford, which include shops, a local church, library, schools, hairdressers and the GP surgery. Information is provided in the service user guide and statement of purpose. A random visit took place on Friday 9th January 2009. This was to confirm that the service continues to provide good outcomes for people. One inspector spent two hours at the home. During this time aspects of health and personal care, complaints and protection and management and administration were inspected and discussed.
