What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included, The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. We received eleven completed surveys from people living in the home and seven from staff. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. A telephone conversation with the Registered Manager for the service on 12/11/2009. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. The registered manager recorded the following statement in the AQAA; We have recently conducted a resident/family survey and the results were once again very good. Some very positive feedback was given. We continue to strive to maintain this level of sevice knowing that the residents of Gateford Hill are able to enjoy their lives and benefit from our excellent service. The surveys that were returned by people living at the service were generally very positive and included comments such as The staff are lovely and friendly Staff listen to me when I have any concerns. Some surveys did tell us that people would like more opportunities to go out and more activities. I would like to go out on more trips and get out more because I am bored. The AQAA states; We have a mini bus which facilitates visits and people are able to access dial a ride if needed. Service users at Gateford Hill can attend events and access services in our local community. Church sevices are held monthly along with the salvation army sevice weekly, all service users are welcome to attend. Serveral service users will take holy communion and are able to do so in a private area if they choose to. We employ a dedicated activity co ordinator who plans activities along side the service Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 users. There is a vast range of activity taking place in and around the grounds of the the home, however outside activty can often depend on the weather. Activities at Gateford are well planned and designed to stimulate and aid orientation. We received seven completed surveys from staff members and all were very positive. Comments included; We provide quality care in a relaxed, homely environment. Our main aim is to promote high standards of care and independence. The manager lets us know about things that have happened by sending notifications to us. (This is a regulatory process which informs us of any reportable incidents that occur at a service.) This demonstrates an open and transparent approach to the service provided. The information provided by the registered manager told us that the service has received three complaints within the last twelve months and that these were investigated within the services policies and procedures with satisfactory outcomes. We have not received any complaints regarding the service. One referral has been made under the Deprivation of Libertys Safeguards and the outcome was satisfactory. There has also been one referral made under Safeguarding Adults procedures. This is current at the time of this Annual Service Review. The information provided by the registered manager told us that the views of the people using the service and their relatives are regularly sought. The completed surveys we received confirmed this. The information provided by the registered manager told us that the staff team are provided with both mandatory training and other training that is relevant to the needs of the people using the service. The completed surveys from staff confirm this. Information in the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment tells us that the manager continues to work towards improving the services and facilities provided at Gateford Hill. Our judgement is that the home is still providing good outcomes for the people that use the service and that the provider knows what further improvements need to be made. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fess and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
