Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. They told us how they have listened to the people who use the service and the things they have done to improve the service: We have regular group meetings where views can be discussed. We use quality assurance surveys, staff review meetings take place weekly and the code of practice, service user guide etc are reviewed and updated on a regular basis. Service users can discuss any concerns with any of the staff and we also discuss any issues with agencies, key workers and social workers. We continue to make made positive changes to the recovery programme and some of these changes have been as a result of listening to service user views. From January 2010 we are relaunching the programme, giving it a new name and have changed time scales for phases. We are also planning to develop a more efficient detoxification unit by employing a GP and extra nursing support staff. We received 7 completed surveys from people living in the home. They told us they were satisfied with the service. We asked people to tell us what they thought the home does well and the following are some of their comments: The home provides a well structured working environment to facilitate recovery. We are also extremely well fed. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Offers a feeling of community. Feeds me well. Keeps me warm and positive. Brings people together/instills a good working discipline. Rehabilitate people back into the community once having completed the programme. We also received some suggestions for things the home could do better: Better recreation programme and facilities. Move on package. There could be more group work to facilitate recovery. At the time of the AQAA being completed the home employed 8 staff. Of these, 7 held a nationally recognised qualification known as NVQs. This showed that the home placed staff training as a high priority and demonstrated good practice. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 30th March 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
