Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The home lets us know when changes happen and when there are events that affect people who live there. We have not had any complaints or concerns about the home in the past 12 months and the AQAA tells us that the home has not had any complaints. The AQAA shows that the home has an excellent approach to personalisation, equalities and diversity. The AQAA tells us that the home seeks the opinions of people in many different formal and informal ways. These include: meetings, planned care reviews, annual goal setting, daily debrief between individuals and staff, weekly activity planning, surveys, the complaints procedure and quality monitoring. We received a survey from one person who lives at Gloucester House. This person told us that they were asked if they wanted to move in, they had enough information to help them decide, they make decisions about their lifestyle, they know who to speak to if they are not happy, the home is clean and staff listen to what they have to say. This Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 person told us, I like the home I live in, the staff are lovely and help me. The AQAA tells us about improvements that have been made at the home in the past year. These include: Occupation and activities outside of the home Assisting one person to improve their reading An activity holiday Widening social circles Personalisation such as putting up photos Gardening Purchasing a smoothie maker to encourage healthy eating and vitamin intake Purchase of sky sports and Nintendo WII Use of advocacy Use of behaviour monitoring tools Closer working with health care and other outside professionals New staff handbook and appraisal The AQAA tells us about plans for improvement at the home in the coming year. These include: Improvements to the garden such as growing vegetables and herbs and composting Consider compiling easier versions of the service guide Identify more opportunities for people to engage socially on a more frequent basis and improve social contacts in the community Empower residents to take responsibility for their health including excercise, weigh loss and smoking Plans for energy saving around the home Developing the role of senior staff What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 10/10/2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
