Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. We received five surveys from people living at the home; four of them told us that they always receive the care and support they need and one of then told us they usually recieve the care and support they need. All five told us that the home always makes sure that they get the medical care they need. They also indicated that they are satisfied with the standard of meals provided; they told us that the home is clean and fresh and staff usually listen to them and act on what they say. Comments we received from them included; The staff are very nice and look after me very well, The house is always very clean and fresh smelling and staff are good at making visitors welcome, Provides extra loving care and I am very satisfied with the care I receive. We received eight surveys from staff who work at the home. They confirmed that recruitment procedures are thorough and robust and safeguard residents. They also confirmed that they are appropriately trained and supervised and there is usually enough staff to meet the individual needs of people who living at the home. We received three surveys from health care professionals. They told us the social and health care needs of people who live at the home are always monitored, reviewed and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 met and the home always seeks and acts on advice appropriately. They also told us that people who live at the home have their privacy and dignity respected and staff have the right skills and experience to support the care needs of the residents. We know that Suffolk Social Services Care Quality Monitoring team have recently visited the home and made some recommendations about care practices and where the home can improve. However we have received no direct complaints or concerns since the last annual service review. The home has submitted an application to the commission for a major variation to their registration as they want to increase the number of people that the home can accomodate. This application is currently being processed by our registration team. The manager works well with us and continues to keep us informed about things that happen at the home. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We have changed our inspection plan to reflect the Commissions current methodology and intend to do a key inspection by 18th November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
