What the care home does well The home is divided into small units that aid the care of people with dementia in orientation in a small area. Although the bedrooms are small and could not accommodate people who may require large items of equipment they are personalised and kept clean and safe. The Manager and staff have been working closely with a project on `Dementia Care Matters` with many ideas and processes taking place that are improving the lives of the people who live at Heathfield. We are told and one care plan was seen showing that care plan documentation has been improved with more focus on the individual person being recorded, reviewed regularly and kept up to date. Activities are much more evident and records of what activities have taken place and how that person has interacted is now held on file. The staff now sit and eat with the residents who need help to eat their meal which is a much more natural process and is more encouraging for those who need this type of support to ensure intake of food and fluids can be carefully monitored. The MUST tool for monitoring the dietary requirements is also much more a live document and is used for all residents who need this nutritional support. The controlled drugs within the home was of some concern at the last inspection. This was looked at during this inspection and a clear process that is safe and monitored regularly is now in place. Procedures are followed and records were all found to be correct. What the care home could do better: Although the home does have plans to improve the garden facility it is taking a long time for the support from the Council to provide the pathways for this improvement. To ensure the residents can benefit from the better weather this project needs to be taking place as soon as possible. Random inspection report
