What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. At the previous inspection on the 27th November 2008, one requirement and three recommendations were made where the service needed to make improvements. Information provided in the AQAA reflects improvements have been made, to address the three recommendations, which relate to staff training, environmental improvements, and ensuring records and documents are available for inspection. However, there is no information in the AQAA to reflect action has been taken to address the requirement, to ensure all cleaning products are locked away in compliance with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations, therefore this will need to be followed up at the next inspection. We looked at the information in the AQAA, which told us where the service has made improvements. Through listening to service users, improvements have been made to the service, turning a small lounge into a sensory room, redecoration of a bathroom including a mural and planning out and about trip to places such as Eastern Farm Park, Jimmys farm and annual holidays. Additionally, to ensure service users are more involved in the planning of the service, information has been produced in more accessible formats, such as picture images, including rotas and menus. The AQAA reflects work has been carried out on the environment, which has improved the atmosphere in the home, some decoration has taken place, new furniture has been purchased, where required. People using the service have been encouraged to produce art work to display around the home and to plant and grow vegetables and flowers in the garden. Other areas of improvement identified in the AQAA reflect further work has been carried out on support plans, specifically around supporting people to make choices. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 Specialised training, such as sensory awareness, autisium and behaviours that challenge have been added to the training porgramme, to ensure staff have the specific skills to meet the needs of the people using the service. Information provided in the AQAA supports our judgment that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA reflects plans to improve sourcing and developing more day care activities, working more closely with Sanctuary Housing to ensure up keep and maintenance of the premises, provide further staff training and to further develop information, which will ensure people using the service are able to understand information that is presented to them, and therefore be able to make more informed choices. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. The AQAA reflects no complaints have been made about the service, since our last key inspection. The service continues to work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 24th June 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
