The last inspection of Falstaff House took place, 6th October 2008 and this annual service review was carried out, 5th October 2009. We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included : The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The home continues seek way of helping people to be involved in everyday decisions that effect them. In the AQAA the manager explains We have been developing easy access information in recording individuals views in the recruitment of staff members and gaining peoples assistance during the recruitment process, we will use when recruiting staff for Falstaff. The Talking Heads group is a forum, where group members become involved in research on disability issue. A current project is Changing Places, this is a national campaign to improve and increase disability toilets in towns and localities. In a questionnaire returned by a relative they commented positively on the support provided by the home and said It cares for my son in the best possible way i.e. it has a very homely, jokey atmosphere, with tea and coffee always on the go. The staff always mingle with residents and I feel a warmth is present. There have been no complaints made to us about the home and no complaints have been made directly to the home to indicate any concerns about the care provided. approach to individuals care. Staff are supported to achieve National Vocational Qualifications in care to equip them Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 to carry out their work effectively. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection, where this is necessary and they have shown that they have managed issues satisfactorily. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and as things stand we do not plan to do a key inspection this year. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
