Annual Service Review Page 3 of 8 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service.. What has this told us about the service? We received the AQAA when we asked for it. It provided good information about the service, what it does well and how it can improve. We received surveys from 7 people using the service, 8 staff, 7 relatives and a health professional. In terms of Equality and Diversity the service has told us that, We work closely with people using the service to devise PCCPs to ensure their needs, choices, beliefs etc are captured in a way they can understand. We encourage/enable people to make decisions and have new life experiences. Promote independence. The Manager and staff encourage an open door policy for people using the service, families and relevant others. All staff receive training in Equality and Diversity every two years. People using the service are enabled to voice their opinions, views etc at meetings. The service has told us in the AQAA that it does well by, Providing a consistently good standard of care, support and enablement. Respects the uniqueness of our resident group. Provides opportunities for new experiences. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 8 Enables people to decide on and reach their goals and potential. Encourages/enables people to express themselves and their opinions. Promotes a healthy lifestyle. Provides a strong, experienced, dedicated, loyal, flexible staff and management team. Promotes good, positive, trusting, lasting working relationships with residents and families. Provides a safe, secure, welcoming environment in which people can thrive. Works to support a happy, content, relaxed group of people. People using the service have told us that, It has a good range of activities, I enjoy going on holiday, has nice staff that support me well. I love living at High Cross, I have made a lot of friends over the years. I am very happy and settled. We go to different places, I am happy with everything. They help us with our pocket money, make sure we have a bath and go out on holidays, day trips and work. They are very good at arranging different activities. I am very happy at High Cross because I have a lots of friends. Relatives have told us, Im sure that High Cross House does well in every aspect I am more than pleased with the care and helpfulness of staff. They do very well with activities especially and my relative takes part in most things including sports. We are happy with the care and attention our relative receives. The service is very well organised and comes across to me as a well run team. Staff are always informed and very pleasant and helpful. Our relative is very happy and loves living at High Cross she trusts the staff implicitly. This is because she has built up a strong relationship with staff over the years, they are all excellent. Please keep High Cross exactly as it is- a wonderful home run by an excellent highly qualified manager and her loyal hard working staff. It cares for my daughters needs. I am pleased with the overall care my relative receives. All the staff are very helpful and supportive. It takes into consideration, what my relative needs as an individual encouraging him to get the best possible opportunities and helping him to achieve an independent life as far as his capabilities will allow. I think the service caters for my relatives needs very well, one thing they do really well is to help her to maintain a healthy weight. Staff told us in surveys, We look after the needs of our residents including their independence. Good reliable staff team, good range of activities giving opportunities that the residents would not have if they lived at home with parents. Happy environment. Service users have plenty of support for activities, colleges work placements and are Annual Service Review Page 5 of 8 very motivated. People support each other and work well as a team. There is always room for improvement to achieve things around the home. Supports the residents well affords a safe environment in which they live, encourages residents to be active and positive in every thing they do. Keeps the residents active with activities and work placements. Creates a secure active and friendly environment for residents. We have been told that improvements have been made in the following areas, Improved PCCP documentation. Reviewed/revised the Health Action Plans (HAP). Kitchen re-furbishment. All staff have received further Makaton training. The service has indicated that areas it needs to improve include, Listen more closely to the views of people using the service. Continue to provide more accessible policies and procedures. Continue to strive to provide a high quality, good value service that benefits people who receive support. Staff have told us, There have been talks within Craegmoor about moving residents toward supported living. I am not against progress and change, but only if thats whats in their best interests. The organisation should ensure that people are given a choice. We could do better by given more choices on their opinions every day and what THEY, would like. I am very concerned about the possible transition of residents into supported living. That it must be done with their needs as a top priority and the area in which they are moved to is of a good standard and is safe. Respond more efficiently when maintenance problems arise. The house could do with more bathrooms and I think that people would appreciate a comfortable chair in their rooms. Take residents individual needs and wishes into consideration and remember that residents have choices. A health professional has said, I have been satisfied that the service ensures that peoples health needs are met, but they could manage risk better, value individuals needs and respond to them appropriately, be better at managing difficult behaviour and enabling people. We have not received a complaint about this service. People using the service have told us in surveys and in discussion that they know who to go to if they have any concerns and know how to complain if they need to. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 6 of 8 We have not changed our opinion of this service as a result of this Annual Service Review. We will continue with our scheduled programme of inspections. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
