What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? A key inspection of Hillside took place on 10th November 2008,it was the first key inspection of the home which was registered in July 2008.At the time of the visit no service users were in residence and this is still the case. The provider was contacted shortly before this Annual Service Review was completed and was hoping interest in the service would soon lead to people moving in. The home has a pre admission assessment process and has undertaken assessments of potential service users, information about the home is available for them and their representatives. The AQAA (Annual Quality Assurance Assessment) completed by registered manager was received within the timescale given and provides us with information on how the service intends to operate when service users have moved in. The AQAA tells us that the home will promote the rights and choices of service users and focus on their strengths and abilities, each person will have a care plan that will include risk assessment. Health needs will be supported and medication only administered by staff with medication training. Service users will be supported to take part in activities of their choice at home and in the community and the intention is to purchase a new vehicle to enable access to the community.Cultural needs in terms of support and meals will be respected. The AQAA says that it will undertake internal quality assurance via residents meetings and the use of surveys.Any complaints will be addressed in accordance with a Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 complaints procedure. The home also has safeguarding polices and procedures. The environment is homely and the AQAA says that prospective occupants and their representatives have commented positively on the layout and atmosphere. The home has a registered manager who is well qualified for the role. AQAA states that new staff are CRB and POVA checked.Staff are well supported and trained and the team is diverse. The home intends to identify areas where it can develop and improve when service users are in residence and it is operational. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will undertake a key inspection of the service by 10th November 2010. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
