Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home last had a key inspection on the 17/06/08. At that inspection, the overall standard of care and support provided was judged to be of a good standard. A total of five requirements were made (one of which was a repeat requirement), along with one good practise recommendation. Since the previous inspection the home has notified the CQC of any significant events, for example an attempted burglary at the home. The CQC has not received any complaints about the home since the previous inspection. The CQC has not received any safeguarding referrals about the home since the previous inspection. As part of this review process, the home completed an AQAA at the request of the CQC, setting out how it is meeting the needs of service users in line with National Minimum Standards. For example, on equality and diversity issues the AQAA states Religious support needs are covered in the pre admission assessment and then build that into the persons support package including any religious dietary requirements, we have made the scheme even more wheelchair accessible and usable - we have two ceiling hoists, a bath lift and a mobile hoist, the building is wheelchair accessible throughout, we have a diverse staff team, we are making contact with different communities to find out how we can adapt to meet their needs (e.g. the boroughs Asian community builder) we do not stop offering someone a service as they get older - only if we do not meet their needs any longer. Whilst on staffing the AQAA states We have a well trained staff team some of whom have worked in the scheme for over a decade,3 staff are qualified to NVQ level 3, 1 is a qualified nurse, 1 has NVQ 2, the Deputy has completed NVQ 3 and the manager is Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 qualified to NVQ level 4 and the RMA, staffing levels vary from day to day based on the needs of the service users who are staying at the time, the rota is linked to those needs, the staff team is culturally, ethnically, gender and age diverse, we have regular staff meetings, all staff are CRB checked, all staff have references and contracts, service users are involved in recruitment, all staff have a Personal Development Plan, all staff have regular supervision and annual appraisals. The AQAA has also highlighted where their is room for improvement, and what they intend to do about this, for instance Improve the website and maybe make a video, Start a carers group, keep pushing for more involvement in reviews. We are planning on working with the community nurses in developing our role in facilitating health action planning when appropriate for our clients. Improved garden, we have started work as an organisation about building links to different communities and the schemes deputy manager has a day a week to start building these links and finding out what is wanted - with regards to both users and recruitment. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by the 16/06/11. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or of the safety of people using the service.
