We examined the homes Annual Quality Assurance Assessment, which is the homes self-assessment of its performance to date. We looked at surveys that people who use the service and staff had completed and returned to us with their comments. We considered notifications made by the service and sent to us about significant events. We reviewed the findings of the last key inspection carried out on 17th February 2009 What has this told us about the service? Hutton Avenue (13) continues to do well against most of the National Minimum Standards concerning Younger Adults, in terms of positive outcomes for the people who use the service. People who use the service and their representatives indicate that they are happy living at there. Typical comments received from people who use the service and staff included: I usually make decisions about what I do each day. I can do what I want to do during the day. I can do what I want to do in the evening and at the weekend. I know who to speak to if I am not happy. The home is always fresh and clean. The staff always treat me well. We work well as a team to ensure best practices. We promote independence and choice on a daily basis. We ensure individuality for each service user. The service takes a person centred approach, providing individualised care. The home has good professional relationships with external health and social care agencies. The service is well managed and there are good quality assurance systems in place, with support from external senior managers. The home has a good staff team of well trained nursing and care/support staff, although only a minority of care staff have completed qualifications in Care at National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) level 2 or above. There are good staff induction and other training programmes organised by the home, including person centred care. The personal care and support provided is good. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The service is progressing well and its Quality rating continues to be good. There is no intention to carry out a key inspection of Hutton Avenue (13) before October 2010. However, the service will be subject to continuous monitoring and annual review and may receive an inspection at any time.
