Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The last key inspection took place on 6th November 2008. We looked at all the information we have asked for or received about the service since the last inspection. The manager has completed and returned to the Commission the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). The AQAA is a self assessment document that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also provides some statistical information about the service. Some of the information provided in the AQAA is included in this report. We have also considered any other information we have received about the service since the last inspection. What has this told us about the service? In the AQAA the manager has described the range of changes and improvements which have been made at the home in the last year. As a result of comments made at residents meetings and in returned quality surveys, changes have been made to the activities provided in the home. More events now take place in the afternoons and at weekends. There is a new cake baking activity taking place on an afternoon every month and more outings have been arranged for residents and their relatives. More specialised activities also take place on the dementia unit and improved signage has been introduced in this area to help the more confused residents remain as independent as possible. Redecoration has taken place in most areas of the home and new bedding has been provided throughout. Some new carpeting has been installed and more has been ordered. The call alarm system has been partially replaced for the safety of staff and residents. Care planning is continually updated and a front summary sheet has been added to the plans so that staff can quickly identify peoples individual needs. High levels of staff training have continued and a second senior has trained as an NVQ assessor, enabling more care staff to undertake this training. Some of the senior staff have achieved the Certificate in Dementia Care and the manager has achieved the Leadership Certificate in Dementia Care. This will enable the services provided for people with a dementia to continue to meet peoples needs in the most appropriate way. The manager states that no complaints have been received in the home in the last twelve months. No complaints about the service have been received by the Commission since the last inspection. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 From the information received so far we have judged that the home is still providing good services to the people involved . What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the services provided. The next key inspection of the service will be undertaken in line with Care Quality Commission methodology. As with all care services, information will continue to be gathered over the intervening period. The homes performance will be subject to a process of continual assessment and evaluation in the light of any information received, with appropriate regulatory action being taken as indicated.
