Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? For this review we looked at all the information that we had received, or asked for, since the last annual service review. This included: the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the home (the AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service, it also gave us some numerical information about the home); surveys returned to us by residents, their advocates and staff working at the home; the previous key inspection, notifcations we had received and any relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. We looked at the information it contained and our judgment is that the home continues to provide a good service. There have been many improvements in the last 12 months: a new manager has registered with us, a resident led welcoming committee has been set up for new residents arriving into the home; two purpose built cupboards have been installed to improve safe storage of medications and new furniture and soft furnishing have been provided for both downstairs lounges. Resident swho completed our survey told us they received enough information about the home before moving in; that staff treated them well and that the home was fresh and clean. Comments we received included: the care is very good, the food is very good and I think it provides the homely features I had in my own home. Adapts to all different people and overall is very relaxed and building is good, staff are friendly and helpful. Church service is doing very well. Eleven relatives returned surveys to us. Their comments were very positive: I am impressed with how the home is run and the atmosphere is friendly and comforting. It is also good that entertainment is arranged and outings another told us: i am delighted that they are kind and understanding of my fathers eccentricities! His key worker is excellent and approachable and its a place you can visit without your heart sinking. However some relatives felt the use of agency staff was too high: one commented: agency staff give adequate care, but do not know residents as well as permanent staff. Another felt that there should be more activities specifically for visually impaired residents. Staff who completed our survey told us they receive training relevant to their role and meet with their managers regularly to discuss how they are working. One stated the management really do care about residents and staff. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 15/10/2010. However we can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living there.
