Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information received and asked for, since the last key inspection on 18th June 2008. This included: 1 The Annual Quality Assurance Review (AQAA) completed by the Registered Manager, including a self assessment on how well outcomes have been met and numerical information about the service. 2 Any complaints we have and information we have about how the service has managed concerns, complaints and allegations. 3 Information received through notifications of things that have happened in the service in the past 12 months. 4 The previous Key Inspection report from 18th June 2008, and the results of any other visits we have made in the last 12 months. 5 Relevant information from other organisations. 6 What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) was returned on time, and was well completed with evidence of how the service operates and has performed. We looked at the information in the AQAA, the history of the service, and the previous report. These evidenced that people who use the service are satisfied with the care, support, and services that they receive, and staff are being appropriately recruited, inducted and trained in their respective roles and responsibillities, in order to meet the needs of the people who use the service. We were told that the Responsible Individual had changed to Sarah McDonald. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) completed by the registered care manager told us about the following improvements they have made: We have provided activities to residents specification. We have held fund raising events and coffee mornings to encourage relationships with outside agencies and families. We have provided the complaints policy and Service user guide in braille form to assist those service users with a sensory impairement. Little Ingestre now provides a grab front care plan to provide new staff and health professionals with a quick glance at the overall care required for each individual service user maintaining all personal and general needs are met effectively. Empowered the service users to organise their own activities and fund raising events. Provided an alternative courtyard area for relaxation during the summer months. Encouraged more service users to access local groups. Provided activity coordinators 5 days per week to enhance the skills of the service user. Provided recreational equipment, to encourage exercise improving coordination and dexterity. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Four staff members completed their NVQ qualification level 2 & 3 Two staff completed foundation courses at local Boots chemist. Provided the complaints policy in a format more friendly to persons with a visual disabililty. Housekeeper checklists carried out weekly and action taken promptly if necessary. Three staff completed NVQlevel 3 and one achieved level2 . Staff sickness improved. Accredited supervision training achieved. Accredited LDQ training achieved by all care staff. Improved teamwork. Greater communciation between health professionals, creating an open atmosphere. The service users receive more mental stimulation through our increased acitivities with qualified activity coordinators. More open days have encouraged better relationships with families and close friends. There had been no Safeguarding Adult Protection referrals made to Social Services, and no complaints had been received, either by the service, or by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) since the previous inspection. We were informed about important events, including incidents and accidents that have happened since the last inspection. The service is managed in a way that shows it has the interests of the people who use the service as the focus of activity. At the previous inspection, the standard of service was judged to be good 2 star. There were 3 recommendations and no requirements made. Recommendations made were in relation to ensuring that people considering using the service are fully aware of all costs, therefore the statement of purpose and service user guide should clearly state that additional charges are made for individual holidays and transport. The kitchen needed some heavy duty cleaning, and the freezer in the preparation room needed to be replaced. These will be monitored at the next inspection. Our judgement is that Little Ingestre is still providing a good service, and they know what further improvements they want to make. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We believe that the quality of this service has been maintained since the previous inspection. We plan to do a Key Inspection by June 2010 to review our assessment of the agency. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service, or the safety of the people using the service.
