What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment AQAA that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service and numerical information about the service. Surveys were sent to people using the service and to other people with an interest in the service yet none were returned to the commission. Additional information is also about how the service has maintained standards, made improvements and plans for the future. Evidence has also been received about how the home manages any complaints and safeguarding concerns and what the service has told us about things that have happened in the home, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We looked at the previous key inspection details, the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months and any relevant information received from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) and it was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. The home have a Statement of Purpose and Service User Guide which the AQAA advises will be improved to include an easy to understand format for prospective residents which would include photos of the home and the surrounding area. The AQAA advises that an individuals care and support needs are assessed prior to their admission to the home. The assessment forms the residents individual support plan detailing their current needs and activities of daily living. The individual and their representatives and key worker are part of the assessment process. The prospective resident is invited to visit the home and make acquaintance with other residents and get to know the home and the staff and to help the individual settle in their new home if they choose to move in. Health care services are available to all residents and include visits from the individual general practitioner, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, music therapists and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 district nurses. Visits are either made at the home or to the health care professional to ensure the health and welfare of residents with specific needs are met. The AQAA advises that each individual has a health action plan, up to date risk assessments, review notes and other health information which the individual has access to and has the opportunity to discuss their plans with their key worker. In order to include individuals in their care the care and support plans are signed by the individual or their representative. The home have identified that they have improved by providing individuals with additional input from physiotherapists and occupational therapists and individuals needs are continually assessed in order to promote their welfare and wellbeing. The AQAA advises that the home has a medication policy and procedure. Since the previous inspection the home have improved the procedures for administering medication which includes each individual having a locked cabinet within their bedroom where medication is stored which has given individuals more privacy, dignity and an improved sense of responsibility and independence. The home have continued with residents meetings where individuals are listened to and their opinions and requests acted upon. Individuals preferences regarding their leisure interests and hobbies are explored and as a result during the summer one individual has been supported to grow their own vegetables and get other residents involved in their hobby. It is noted that the individuals at the home have enjoyed the fruits of their labours. The home has continued to encourage individuals to be involved in the daily running of the home and each individual has chores to do which contributes to the running of their home. Family and friends are actively encouraged to be part of the individuals life and community outings are arranged to support individuals to be part of their local community. Planning of the homes menus with individuals occurs regularly once a week and staff encourage and promote individuals to have healthy food choices. Choices of meals are available and individuals dietary requirements respected. The home have identified some plans for improvement which consist of individual menu planing, food shopping and supporting individuals to undertake more cooking in their home. The home has a formal complaints procedure. No complaints have been received by the home within the last 12 months and no safeguarding vulnerable adult referrals have been made. The home confirm they have a whistle blowing policy and procedure and staff are aware of their duties to inform and report any concern they may have regarding the protection of individuals from harm or abuse. The home continues to meet the needs of individuals.
