Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 2 of 7 What we found: This inspection was undertaken following information provided by the company that a temporary manager was running the home. The inspection was carried out by the link inspector for the service and took 3 hours. Time was spent talking with the manager, staff and residents of the home. Some records were reviewed and the communal areas of the home were inspected. The temporary manager is currently reviewing the homes systems and those identified as needing upgrading are being addressed. Care plans have been identified as requiring attention. The temporary manager is currently revising them to a new format. New photographs of each person in the home are being taken and individual life plans are being upgraded. Fire checks and staff instruction is in place but the risk assessment of the building could not be found. Also the gas safety certificate was not available for inspection. This element of inspection was rated GOOD at the last inspection. The homes complaints log could not be found. People spoken to in the home felt at ease and well supported to live their chosen lifestyle. The medication system was reveiwed, storage is appropriate and a system is in place to record medications provided to people in the home. The initials of people dispensing medicines should be recorded so that they can be identified. Hand written details in medication records should have two signatures to ensure recordings are accurate. All medicines with a limited life should be dated when opened. A system is in place to record any monies held by the home for people. This system was reviewed and was found to be in order. The manager feels supported by company managers and has received a management supervision recently but regulatory visits to monitor the care provided in the home are outdated. The temporary manager is currently operating with a staff team of two care staff and a domestic, however an additional carer is being recruited. The home is clean and reasonably well maintained. Two bathrooms are being refurbished and the temporary manager is costing future bathroom and shower alterations.
