What did we do for this annual service review? The last key inspection at the home was 23rd May 2008. We looked at all the information we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA), that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well the outcomes are being met for people living at the home. It also gave us some numerical information about the home. This was detailed and included all the information we asked for. What they have told us about things that have happened at the home. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report. We sent three surveys to people living at the home, however they were not returned to us at the time of writing this report. What has this told us about the service? The home told us that there are opportunities for people living at the home and other people important to them to put forward their views and suggestions about the service provided there. They told us that there are no rigid rules so that people are able to maintain their preferred daily routines whilst living there. They told us that people are encouraged to maintain friendships and relationships with people important to them, and there are opportunities for people to meet with their visitors in private at the home if they wish. They told us that people are supported to use community facilities that meet their individual needs and interests. All people living at the home had a holiday last year, and they were involved in choosing where to go. The home told us that there is a rolling programme of redecoration and refurbishment in place so that people are provided with a comfortable place to live. They told us that the home is now fully staffed and this should mean that the use of temporary or agency staff will reduce, promoting continuity of care for people living there. They told us that they are looking at ways to involve people living at the home in the recrutiment process so that they can choose the people that support them. They told us that since our last visit, improvements have been made regarding the care planning system used. This should mean that people are more involved in planning their care and that staff are better informed about peoples individual care needs, prior to and during their stay at the home. They told us that plans are in place to develop hospital information books, so that personal information is available should a person living at the home have to go into hospital. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home told us that procedures are in place in order to protect people from harm and they identified that alternative arrangements need to be sought in respect of members of the Organisation acting as appointees for people living at the home. This is in order to protect all involved. Information on the AQAA identified that a number of policies in respect of health and safety matters were due for review in order to protect people living at the home. The home told us that they had not received any complaints since our last visit, and we have not received any complaints about the service provided there. The home tells us about things that happen there, and show that they manage any issues well. They work with us and have shown that they continue to provide good outcomes for the people living there. We looked at the information, and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service, and they know what further improvements they need to make. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 23rd May 2010. However we can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
