What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review, which included the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people living in the home. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. We also asked people what they thought of the home, previous to this annual service review we sent surveys to people living there and other people with an interest in Montana Care Home, including peoples relatives, staff members, social workers, doctors and other professionals who visit the home. We checked our records for information we have about how the service has managed any complaints it gets and looked at what the home has told us about things that have happened there, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We also had a look at the previous key inspection report and the results of any other visits that we may have made to the service in the last 12 months and took into account any other relevant information that people or any other organisations had shared with us since the last inspection. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We sent surveys to the people living in the home and some of the staff members. We got a very good response and the majority of them were returned and some relatives had made comments on their family members surveys. People told us that they like living at Montana , one person said about the staff, All the Sisters are wonderful and I thank God every day that I am here. Another person told us that, I feel that this is my home, I am very happy. The Sisters are always very good to us. Their relatives said they felt the home offered an excellent level of care. One comment read, The Nuns who staff Montana are gentle, dedicated people...... They are constantly cheerful and welcoming to visitors. Someone else said, It was fortunate that when my relative needed this sort of accommodation we found this care home...... It is very well run and I and my family are very happy that they have found themselves there. One staff members answer to the question what does the service do well was, I couldnt think of any one thing to pin point, I personally think we put our residents first. We also received surveys from the homes general practitioners, the comments were positive and one said, They provide a caring and homely environment for people who are no longer able to manage in their own home. A member of the Association of Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 Friends of Montana told us in their survey that, Residents are involved in all aspects of the running of the home via meetings, questionnaires and the manager walking around the building everyday. We have not received any concerns or complaints about this home since the last inspection and the manager told us in the AQAA that there have been no complaints made to them in the past year either. This home continues to provide care that is person centred and the AQAA tells us that they provide a high standard of support to the residents , ensuring they receive the care and treatment to help them maintain a full and enjoyable life. The manager also says in the AQAA that, All care plans are reviewed with the clients together with relatives, where possible, on a regular basis. This care plan is signed by the client. Even the accident forms are signed by the client or their relative. The AQAA told us about some of the improvements made at the home since the last inspection, In the last twelve months we have had a major building project and have extended both the lounge and the dining area and both of these rooms have been completely refurbished, which includes a large wall mounted television. We have contacted the manager and she has told us that they have already completed some of the improvements they said they planned to do in the AQAA. Ramps have been laid in two of the bedrooms and in the lounge so that people can access the garden from those rooms, they have also installed a new call bell system to improve peoples access to the carers. The home has a chapel where Mass is held every morning, a video link has been put in so that the residents who cant get into the chapel or have difficulty attending mass there, can now watch it on a television in the library. There werent any requirements made at the last inspection. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last visit and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 10th November 2011 However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
