Montbelle is an extended, semi-detached house in a quiet residential street in New Eltham. The home caters for up to five younger adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities. The residents have their own bedrooms, furnished and decorated to their own tastes, and use of communal facilities that include a lounge/diner, kitchen, laundry room, conservatory (which doubles as a staff office) and a large garden. There is a toilet and bathroom on the first floor, a shower room and toilet and a separate toilet on the ground floor. There is unrestricted parking in the road at the front of the house, and close by are bus routes to Catford, Bromley or Lewisham. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that had been sent to us by the home. This self-assessment document focuses on how outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information. We reviewed the previous key inspection report from 22/12/2008. We surveyed residents and staff working in the home to obtain their views about the quality of services that Montbelle Road provides. We reviewed our files to check whether any notifications had been received from the home since our previous inspection or whether any information about the home had been received from other sources. We have been in communication with the homes registered manager. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) in November 2009, when we asked for it. It gave the information we asked for and we judged from this that the home will continue to provide a good service, and also that they are aware of improvements they need to make. Our last key inspection showed the home was providing a good service, so we gave it a two-star rating. The home had shown us that it was providing good outcomes for its residents. At our request, the manager provided written confirmation that issues we raised at our last key inspection of the home have been addressed. We had made three requirements about environmental issues, two to ensure good hygiene practice and one to help ensure residents safety. We made two good practice recommendations about medication administration. At the time of this annual service review, there were three people living in the home and we received a response to our survey from each of them. They were supported by their keyworkers to make their responses. We also received survey responses from four members of staff working at Montbelle Road. The survey responses we received showed people are satisfied with the quality of services at Montbelle Road and with how the home is being run. Comments from residents about what the home does well included: Treating people with dignity and respect; Supporting me in all my daily activities; Good meals. Comments from staff members showed they are satisfied with the training and support available, and are confident that residents needs are being met well. A review of our files showed that since our last inspection we have received one statutory notification from Montbelle Road. This concerned a residents health and welfare and was sent to us promptly. We are not aware of any concerns, complaints or Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 allegations about the home. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We have included Montbelle Road in our inspection plan. We can inspect it at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the welfare of the people using it.
