Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the manager. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people who live at the home. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints or safeguarding issues. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) which was clearly written and described improvements that had been made to the service for the benefit of the people who live there. The AQAA went on to state that further improvements are planned, which will be referred to in this review. We were told that all care plans are being reviewed so that they will be easier to read and understand. The AQAA stated that independence is promoted by staff so that people have the opportunity to maintain and develop their skills as part of their every day lives. Support continues to be offered to people to manage their own money, keep in touch with friends and families and have input into the running of the home. The manager told us that effort is made to present information to people in a way they understand to help them make choices and decisions as part of their day to day lives. For example photo menus and activity boards are used to assist people who do not read to choose their meals and things to do. The AQAA stated that the home has a complaints procedure which is made available to the people who live there. No complaints have been received about this service within the last twelve months. 80 of staff who work at Maple Leaf Drive are working towards National Vocational Training at Level 3 in care. The AQAA told us that a range of training opportunities are provided including safeguarding and health and safety awareness. This should contribute to the deployment of a competent, trained team of staff for the benefit of people living in the home. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 There are planned improvements for the next twelve months, which include Personal safety training for people who live at the home. Recruitment of male staff to reflect the gender of people living at the home. Presentation of the complaints procedure on DVD to assist people to understand how to raise concerns and complaints. We are satisfied that the service is still providing excellent outcomes for people who live in the home. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection of the home by September 28th 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service provided or the safety of the people living in the home.
