Observations made during this visit was that enough staff are on duty to support people who required help and that staff were mindful of residents dignity and privacy. A resident commented that `you feel that you are being looked after by family not staff, you feel like you are at home`. The management and senior staff work well as a team and there is a very stable staff group, enabling good knowledge of the needs of people. This was an unannounced visit which formed a random inspection visit. It lasted approximately three hours and we took into account previous information held by us including the previous inspection report, the service history and records of any incidents that we had been notified of since the last inspection. During this visit we talked to people to obtain their views about whether they felt their needs were being met and about their quality of life. We also spoke to three staff to learn their views about how they felt their training and development needs were being met. We also spoke with the manager to learn of any changes which have taken place and if there were any risks to the people living in the home. Before this inspection visit we received 5 surveys from the people living in the home and 3 from staff to learn of their views. Comments from the people were all positive and included, the staff are wonderful they make me feel very happy. My family and friends visit and have all commented on how welcoming the staff are who offer them tea or coffee. Surveys showed that 3 people felt that there are usually activities in the home and 2 felt that there were always activities in the home. All surveys showed us that they all liked the meals at the home. Comments were, the food is very good but sometimes there is too much for me to eat. All residents surveys received confirmed that they know how to make a complaint and that they know who to speak to if they are unhappy. Comments made to the inspector were, I feel safe here, the staff are kind, thoughtful and are sensitive to my needs. Another comment was Staff are always pleasant and friendly. No negative comments were received by people who live in the home or staff working there during this visit. Three members of staff confirmed that they had undertaken training including; fire training, first aid, moving and handling, infection control, medication training and dementia training. Training is undertaken to ensure that staff can meet peoples needs. They told us that there is an ongoing training programme, which they are all expected to attend. All 3 staff confirmed that they have undertaken NVQs, National Vocational Qualifications, in caring for the elderly level 2 or level 3. All 3 carers confirmed that they have undertaken employment checks carried out by the provider. This included obtaining two references, a criminal record bureau check (CRB), protection of vulnerable adults check (POVA) and a formal interview. In house training relating to safeguarding has been undertaken and was documented in the training programme. Residents surveys showed us that they received the care and support they needed and that staff were available when they needed them. They also confirmed that staff always listened to them and acted on what they said to them. A resident told us that, I had no quality of life before I came here, my life has been changed completely, I now have a good quality of life. I now want to live and reverse my wishes not to be resuscitated. The manager and operations manager are fully aware of
