Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: The last key inspection of this service was carried out on 12th June 2009 when the rating awarded was 3* Excellent. This unannounced Random inspection made on 24th March 2010 to investigate an anonymous complaint that the home smelt strongly of offensive odours and the allegation that residents were left sitting in the lounge facing the wall. At the time of this unannounced visit nothing was found to uphold these allegations. A tour of the whole building was made and we found it to be clean tidy throughout and to have no offensive odours. As found at the last full inspection the home continues to have a long standing and experienced team of housekeepers who have the sufficient time and appropriate materials and equipment to adequately maintain the cleanliness of the home.Service users and visitors told us that they always found the home to be kept clean and nobody asked could recall any mal-odours. At the time of this unannounced visit residents were seen to be sitting in the lounge some in wheelchairs were sitting in the conservatory area of the lounge looking out of the windows whilst others there sitting either alongside each other in a line or in a small circle facing each other. One resident told us that they could choose where they sat and did so amongst their friends. All the residents and visitors spoken with confirmed that they were happy with the care and the activities that were provided for them. Spot checks made on three care plans found them to contain good detail and to be maintained up to date. Each gave evidence that an activity assessment had been carried out and a programme to meet their individual needs compiled.
