What the care home does well The AQAA informs us that ` Our service gives one to one care and support to our client. We keep the family regularly informed. Resident questionnaires reflect the views of the service Olcote provides. We involve our resident in all home issues and have daily discussions to make sure of his continued happiness`. In the survey the person indicated a satisfaction with all aspects of the service and made additional comments to support this - ` The quality of life is excellent, I am happy and settled here`. We looked at the care documentation of this person and saw that in all aspects of assessing the care needs and assessments of risk the person is fully involved. The owner explained that any identified areas of risk are fully explained and discussed with the person ensuring an understanding of how to minimise any harm or injury that could occur. For example the person enjoys riding a push bike, the manager explained the action taken to ensure the person maintains good road safety awareness. We saw that there are safe procedures in place for dealing with the persons daily medications. The person has given consent for the manager to administer the medications. They told us that they are satisfied with this as they can be assured of receiving the medications at the correct times as prescribed by the general practitioner. We saw that the person has regular health care checks i.e. annual well man checks, dentists, hearing specialists etc.The AQAA recorded that the service has not received any concerns or complaints since the last inspection. The person told us that if they did have any worries they felt able to discuss this with the owners or their family. We, the commission, have not recieved any correspondence in relation to complaints or concerns regarding the service. The service continues to provide very comfortable accommodation, the person expressed their satisfaction with their personal and family living space. What the care home could do better: It is considered that the service is continuing to provide an excellent service - no requirements and recommendations have been made as a result of this unannounced inspection. The service did not know that we would be calling to conduct an inspection of the home. The last key inspection of the service was completed in May 2007 and was rated as providing an excellent service. Annual service reviews in July 2008 and June 2009 did not change our judgement of the service. The service continues to provide accommodation and personal care to one person. We looked at the care records, risk assessments and medication records for this person. We spoke with the person and the owners of the home. We looked around the home. Prior to this inspection an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) document was posted to the home for completion. The AQAA is a self-assessment and a dataset that is filled in once a year by all providers. It informs us about how providers are meeting outcomes for people using their service and is an opportunity for providers to share with us areas that they believe they are doing well. It is a legal requirement that the AQAA is completed and returned to the commission within a given timescale. The registered manager completed this document in February 2010 and returned it to us. Comments from the AQAA are included within this inspection report. We asked for our Have Your Say, surveys to be distributed to the person living at the service. This survey was completed by the person and returned to us. Comments from the survey are included in this report. What the care home does well:
