What the care home does well We spoke to all the people in the home. One person told us that the home was `clean and excellent`, and the `staff were polite and professional`. It was said that the manager was very good and listens and talks to them. We were told that they recently had the people`s meeting so they can discuss their views about any concerns they might have about the home. It was also said that they discussed activities that they would like to do in the home and in the community. The people told us that they go to college and enjoy this. One person told us that they go on holidays with staff and enjoy this. Another person showed us their bedroom which was indivisualised to their needs. They showed us the certificates that they had achieved at college. They were very proud of their achievements and of the hard work they had put in to complete their courses. The people tel us that they like the pig, chickens and rabbits that they helped to look after in the home. One person told us that they all got involved in the fire drill practice and they knew what to do if there was a fire.We were told that the people in the home also help out in the community by picking up litter and by planting trees. The people also attended the `Tools Project`, this is where the people from the home go to a place where they clean up old tools and then sent them to a country that needs them. The home also held a Dignity party for Dignity day 2010. We were told that this was very successful and all the people enjoyed themselves. We were told that the home and the district nurse helped two people to give up smoking after having smoked for many years. The people felt more healthy. We spoke to one of the new member of staff on duty. We were told that hey had a good induction and shadowed a member of staff when they first started work. It was said that they had also completed the induction book. Training was said to be good and they were going to do the safe guarding of vulnerable adults training today because they missed the last training. We were told that it was `great working with clients` and `enjoys every minute of this`. It was also said that the people did lots of activities that they enjoyed and staff supported them. The staff were said to be `brilliant and helpful` and they have staff meetings and `supervision, which was good`. It was also said that the manager was the `best I have ever worked with it`. What the care home could do better: The home continues to provide an excellent service for the people living in the home. The home completed an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) which is a self assessment tool that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. The surveys sent to the home by the Care Quality Commission were completed by the people using the service and these were all very positive about the staff and living at the home. We visited this home on the 18th of May 2010. The registered manager of the home helped with the inspection process. We looked at the complaints file and the manager told us that two complaints were made by one person in the home. Evidence showed that the manager dealt with them appropriately. The home had made two safe guarding referrals to the safeguarding team of social services. They had also informed the appropriate agencies regarding the incidents. The outcome of the incidents showed that the home had followed the proper procedures and advice from the safe guarding team was put into place. We inspected staff recruitment files of staff that started work since the last inspection. The evidence showed that all the relevant information needed to ensure people are kept safe was obtained and the information in the files were organised well.
