Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We asked the home manager to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). The AQAA is the self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for the people using the service (living at the home). It also provides us with information about the number of people living in the home, their care needs and the staff group caring for them. Three people who live at the home, one member of staff working at the home and one heath and social care professional, returned survey forms. This provided information about the service from people who live and work there. We looked at what the service has told us about things that have happened. These are called notification and are a legal requirement. We looked at the number and type of complaints received since the last inspection. The previous inspection reports and our finding at that time were also taken into account. We considered what other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The AQAA was returned to the Commission when it was asked for. This gave clear information about the service. We looked at the information in the AQAA this indicated that the service continues to provide a good service for the people who live there. The information indicates that five of the seven staff employed have achieved an NVQ level 2 or above in care. And the manager has achieved an NVQ level 4 in management since our last inspection. The Commission has received notifications from the manager regarding events that affect people who live in the home since the last inspection. The manager has kept the Commission informed of changes that could affect people living at the home. And she has advised us of any actions she has taken. The manager provided information about the improvements to the service that have taken place in the last twelve months in the following statement. The Home has improved by recruiting a new Team Leader and by the implementation of Your Voice meetings with the service users. The Statement of Purpose and the Service User Guide has been reviewed by the service users and we have reviewed the welcome pack for new service users. Assessment of service users takes place before they move in and continues throughout their stay, the focus of the Home is outcome led and service users are encouraged to actively participate in the compilation of their person centred plans and reviews. The AQAA indicates that no complaints had been received by the home. The home cares for people with acquired brain injuries who often have behaviours that challenge the service. The Commission has received one safeguarding referral for this service since our last inspection. The home had ensured that people were safeguarded and worked closely with care managers and health professionals to resolve the issue raised. Comments we received in anonymous surveys from people living at Phoenix Lodge and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 staff working there were complimentary about the care and services offered. All is good. The home is helping me to get back into society and the staff are very good at their jobs and are very helpful Supports people to maintain their independence Phoenix Lodge is a lovely home for adults with brain injury. The home is very warm and welcoming. The staff are friendly. Service users seem to be very happy to live here. Our previous inspection judged the home to be providing a good service for people who live there. No Requirements and five good practice Recommendations were made at the last inspection on 18/10/2007. The AQAA and previous service reviews have shown the manager has improved the service and Recommendations have been met. The information available to the Commission shows that the service has continued to provide a good standard for people who live there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 18th October 2010. However, we can inspect the service at anytime if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
