What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organizations. What other people have told us about the service including responses to a CQC satisfaction survey completed by residents, staff and visiting health and social care professionals. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what improvements they need to make. Responses by staff social care professionals, health care professionals and residents our satisfaction survey was positive. Staff told us: Prior to be employed criminal record bureau checks and references were carried out, they received a good induction and training, are well supported and are aware of the procedures to follow should they suspect any residents is being abused. Residents or their representatives wrote: I am helped here every day and the staff are really kind. I have live here for x years, everything has been just fine. I wish for nothing more. Health care professionals told us the home is good at caring and supporting residents, and addressing their needs and treating them as individuals. In their AQAA the agency told us We do the following to ensure that race, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion and belief are promoted and incorporated into what we do; Together has a comprehensive equal opportunities policy (available on request). All staff inducted into core values according to Skills for Care and so reflect antidiscriminatory practice. Togethers national and regional service user directorate structures which include meetings and dedicated training opportunities for service users are now clearly promoted within the Pines and I feel this furthers the progress of equality and diversity within the organisation and the Pines. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Future developments include: We will review with local stakeholders the demographic representation of BME minorities within the staff and service user groups by comparing with the most recent census results. In their AQAA the home also informed us since the last inspection the following improvements have been implemented: Moved the ethos of the home ever more towards independent living skills and having a structure for doing so. Improved and increased training opportunities for staff to deliver to a recovery wellbeing model agenda. Ensured external decorations and internal communal areas are decorated. Worked more creatively with residents around participation in residents meetings. Future plans include: To continue to address environmental issues through senior management of the organisation and through our housing association partners, London & Quadrant. Continue to further the implementation of the recovery and wellbeing model, by refreshing training and delivering according to the newly launched organisational policy and pack. Increase contact between service users and the organisations dedicated service user directorate. Increase staff competencies. The home has shown that they have managed issues well. No complaints have been received by CSCI the previous regulator or CQC since the last inspection. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for people who use the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 11th November 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
