We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The agency sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We requested Have Your Say surveys to be distributed to people using the service, staff and health professionals familiar with the service. These provide us with feedback about how well the service is meeting peoples needs, however we have not received any surveys. There are no outstanding requirements for this service. The AQAA reflects what the agency do well and how they have improved in the last twelve months. This tells us the home continues to work well with social services, to deliver support tailored to the needs of the people living in the home. The home has a well trained and competent staff team with an array of experienced staff who are good at supporting people to make choices, to do as much as possible for themselves and to build and maintain important relationships. The home is clean and comfortable with a very homely feel to it. Support plans have been improved so that they are more detailed and are person centered. Staff have supported people, where required to include healthy food choices to aid weight loss and better health and to access there own bank accounts. Consultation has taken place with people using the service and their families to write a risk assessment, so that residents can take part in a balloon flight. The manager and deputy have attended various managers training courses, and ensured that staff have completed all mandatory training, as well as completing safeguarding and deprivation of liberty training on the internet. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 The AQAA reflects as a result of listening to people living in the home, changes have been made to enable them to provide feedback about the service they are receiving. Paper based questionnaires, were previously being used, however residents said they did not always find these gave them the scope to comment on what is important to them. The AQAA reflects the service has moved towards a more flexible process for facilitating and recording discussions with people. They have also introduced a what matters to me, person centered approach to reviewing the quality of the service and identifying areas which require improvement. The AQAA tells us the improvements the service plans to make, these include involving parents and relevant others in any changes to the way they deliver the service, continue to review and update risk assessments and share relevant information with significant others and ensure documentation, particularly relating to individuals, is made more accessible to them based on their communication needs. Other areas the service intends to improve is to source more activities, clubs and evening classes such as yoga, Aqua aerobics and Pilates and support residents that are interested to attend trial sessions. Supported living consultations have now started, therefore the service is making sure that people using the service are supported to access Direct Payments The service continues to invest in the structure of the home both internally and externally, these have included, repainting the hallway and lounge. All house carpets have been cleaned and a new larder fridge and micro wave have been purchased. Further improvements to the environment are planned as the budget allows. Our records confirm information in the AQAA that no complaints have been received about the service. One safeguard alert made about a person living in the home was received by us, via Customer 1st. This has been fully investigated by Suffolk County Council, Social Services and Safeguarding team. We looked at the information provided in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 24th February 2011. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
