Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection on 6 October 2008. This included :- The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the manager. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. -Surveys - these are sent to the home to get the views of those living their about the care and support they receive. - Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. - What the service has told about the things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. - Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The manager returned the completed Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) and we looked at the information provided. In our judgement the home is still providing a good service. The manage states that they seek the views of the people who use the service through residents reviews, meetings, questionnaires, home forums, relative meetings, and they have an open door policy which they feel provides easy communication. There is an Age Concern advocate who visits the home on a monthly basis. The AQAA states that they have made changes as a result of listening to people and these include providing activities 7 days a week, they have sourced new entertainers to provide in house entertainment, they have been on trips to the zoo and a farm. To promote equality and diversity the manager states they do this through staff training, use of policies and procedures which refer to the Disabilities Discrimination Act, they respect the differing needs and choices of the people who use the service and this is recorded within their pre-admission assessments. The manager states they have integrated a newly admitted resident to the home and they now take an active role in the home and lead an active and fulfilling lifestyle. The manager states that the barriers they have found over the last 12 months which have hindered some improvements was the high demand for dementia care beds, they have now created a further 15 bedded unit on the ground floor to support the needs of those with dementia. The manager states the improvements for the coming year which have been identified include staff training opportunities and develop their skills to provide support to those who use the service to a high standard. New furniture and decor has been identified throughout the home to improve the environment for the residents following consultation with them. The manager states they will continue to hold regular meetings with staff and the residents to ensure they continue to receive feedback on the care and support that is provided at Providence Court. Comments received from staff, resident and professional surveys what the service does Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 well includes team work good training kept informed of changes friendly atmosphere improved their quality of life well run home good choice of food. Comments for where improvements can be made include; more outings more staff at holiday times. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We can inspect the service at any time if we have any concerns about the care provided but there is no indication at this time that an inspection is required in the immediate future. The next key inspection of this service will be undertaken in line with our methodology unless information received suggests that an earlier visit is necessary.
