What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received since the services last Key Inspection. This included: The services Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the registered manager. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for the people who live at Raleigh House. It also gave us some numerical information about the home. What the service has told us about things that have happened there since its last inspection, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We use this information to determine whether or not the service continues to manage the occurrence of significant incidents and/or events appropriately. The outcome of the services last Key Inspection, carried out in January 2009. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for According to the AQAA: No placements have broken down in the past year. Sufficient numbers of the services permanent staff team have achieved a National Vocational Qualification in care level 2 or above, as well as receiving infection control, basic food hygiene, and induction training. All the people who started work in the home in the last 12 months have had pre-employment checks carried out on them which were all found to be satisfactory. All the services health and safety equipment has been serviced or tested as recommended by the manufacturer or other regulatory body. The service also continues to let us know about the occurrence of any significant incident and/or event involving the people who use the service and have shown us they continue to manage these matters well. All three of the good practise recommendations made in the services last key inspection report have been considered and appropriate action taken to implement them. The manager told us as we suggested care plans and the services Guide have been illustrated with various pictures and photographs to enable the people who use the service to read and understand these documents more easily. All staff have recently received training in person centred care planning and care. And finally, the service has introduced a new monitored dosage system and the poor practise of secondary dispensing ceased. When we next visit the service we will look closely at all the improvements the manager tells us they have made since its last Key inspection. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The service continues to work well with us and from all the information gathered as part of this annual review we still judge it to be an excellent performing one which still provides excellent outcomes for the people who live there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our plan to carry out a key inspection of this service by 11th January 2011 because we still rate Raleigh House as a three star excellent performing care home. However, we do reserve the right to inspect the service at any time if we have any concerns about the quality of the service being provided or the safety of the people who live there.
