What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received , or asked for, since the last inspection. This included: - The quality assurance assessment ( AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self - assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. - Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from people with an interest in the service. -Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. - What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous Key Inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. -Relevant information from other organisations. -What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The last inspection report about this service found that it provided good outcomes for service users. The AQAA was returned promptly and was fully completed by the manager. Areas that the home does well were identified and included, good individual support plans, healthy menus, promoting more independence in the home and tenants involvement in recruitment. The manager reported in the AQAA areas that the home had improved upon and these included: individual cooking and food shopping, tenants are enjoying more of the club nights out, increased staff resources with tenants receiving more one to one support and training for staff. Areas for improvement include: help the tenants understand their rights and choices by making a video about themselves if they wished to, make the service user guide more friendly by making it more pictorial, make the tenants aware of more independent living by showing alternative accommodation to those who wish to move on and to recruit at least one male staff to join the staff team. In discussion by telephone with the manager she stated that the requirements made at the previous inspection had all been addressed and that there were no significant issues in the home. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Four surveys were returned from tenants who had been supported by staff to complete the forms. No issues of serious concerns were identified with tenants indicating that they enjoyed living at the home and were treated well by the staff team. To the question what does the home do well? comments in the surveys said helps me to have holidays, some activities e.g. club night, staff sometimes cook good food , help with appointments, going out with staff and staff look after the home well. To the question what the home could do better comments received included listen and act, staff not to say I forgot to pass on information, spend more time with tenants instead of doing paperwork. One person said that they would like to see repairs of faults being carried out properly. One staff questionnaire was returned at the time of writing this report. The comments were positive and included All staff work with a client - centered focus and treat clients respectively, The home and staff team work well a a team and are able to work flexibly and creatively. They also stated that they would like to see better maintenance support in the home. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last Key Inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. From the information in the AQAA and questionnaire response, our judgement is that the home is still providing a god service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a Key inspection by the 7th October 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
