Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service provider. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. The previous key inspection report. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and generally gave us the information requested. Based on the AQAA and other information received our judgement is that the home continues to provide a good service for people living at Ravenscourt. The service actively seeks the views of the residents by way of meetings and surveys, and also holds meetings for relatives so that their views can also be aired and taken into account. New furniture and equipment, such as hospital profiling beds and bedroom furniture have been purchased for the benefit of residents. There is a programme of redecoration and refurbishment which is continually implemented. The service is working in partnership with, for example, St. Francis Hospice Palliative Care Nurses and this has reduced the number of residents being admitted into hospital, and has enabled these residents to end their lives in a peaceful and dignified way in the care home, in accordance with their wishes. The activity co-ordinator continues to organise festive occasions and daily activities and some residents are involved in making items for sale at the summer and autumn fetes which are held at the home. The home continues to work closely with health/social care professionals and a new system of monitoring wound management has been instigated which involves input from the Tissue Viability Nurse. Quarterly pharmacy inspections are undertaken from an external pharmacist and medication reviews are also undertaken for all residents. The service has recently introduced a key worker system. Training for all staff continues and this has included Mental Capacity Act, dementia awareness, end of life, first aid and encouragement for all care staff to undertake the NVQ level 2 as a minimum. An unannounced visit to the home was recently undertaken by the safeguarding team from the London Borough of Havering, and feedback from that visit was very positive. Where necessary appropriate risk assessments were in place, and staff were knowledgeable around the needs of the residents for whom they were caring. The AQAA tells us that the recruitment process remains robust and that equality and diversity issues remain high on the agenda. The AQAA also tells us that no complaints have been received in the past 12 months, and that the complaints procedure is displayed prominently within the home. Currently there are no safeguarding referrals ongoing at this service, and there have been no referrals under the deprivation of liberty safeguards. The service continues to work well with the Commission and keeps us informed of any incidents. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by the 28th July 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
