Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received since the services last Key inspection. This included: Ten of our satisfaction surveys that were completed and returned to us by three people who use the service and seven members of staff who work there. What the manager has told us about things that have happened at 37 Reddown Road since its last inspection. What action the manager told us she has taken to address the one outstanding requirement and all the good practise recommendations we made in the services last inspection report. What has this told us about the service? All the written feedback we received from the people who live at the home and those that work there was in the main very positive. One hundred percent of the responses we received from the people who use the service told us they can usually make decisions about what they do each day; knew who to speak to if they were unhappy and how to make a complaint if they felt it was appropriate; felt their home was always kept fresh and clean; and that staff always treated them well and listened to what they had to say. Similarly, all the responses we received from staff was equally positive. All wrote they were always given enough up to date information about the needs of the people they supported via care plans; their employer had carried out Criminal Record Bureau checks on them and obtained references from their last employer before they were allowed to commence working at the home; their training was always relevant to their role; they received regular support from their manager; there was always enough staff on duty to meet everyones needs; and they knew what to do if someone raised concerns about the home. In addition to these comments, the vast majority of staff who contacted us told us they believed the service was particularly good at promoting the rights of the people who lived their to maximise their independence and make informed choices. All the positive comments we received from various stakeholders not withstanding the majority of staff also told us the service could be improved if it had more drivers to take the service users out in the homes vehicle. We made a recommendation in the services last inspection report that opportunities for the people who lived at the home to participate in more stimulating community based activities was an area they needed to improve upon. What action the service has taken to address this issue will be looked as part of its next Key inspection. The manager also told us that appropriate action has been taken to implement all the Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 other good practise recommendations we made in the services last report, which we will also look at 37 Reddown Roads next key inspection. This will include the homes arrangements for ensuring the availability of relevant information in easy to read formats, staff training and supervision, the physical exterior and grounds of the home, and the availability of interesting community based social activities. The manager continues to let us know about the occurrence of any significant incidents and/or events involving the people who use the service. It was evident from the action taken by the manager in response to recent incidents in the home that they were dealt with in a very open, prompt, and professional manner. The service continues to work with us well and has demonstrated it still provides good outcomes for the people who live there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our plan to carry out a key inspection of this residential care service by 17th March 2012. However, we do reserve the right to inspect this care home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service being provided or the safety of the people who live there.
