Sabre Court is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to 12 younger adults who have or are recovering from a mental illness. The manager is Mrs Janet Tait and Mr Andrew Maurice Tait owns it. Sabre Court is a large semi-detached house situated in a residential area of the town. It is convenient for local amenities and facilities. Public transport to and from the town centre passes the door. Accommodation and facilities are provided on three of the floors. The ground floor houses the communal areas while the upper two floors provide the bedroom accommodation. The top floor is used for storage purposes and night staff accommodation. The property does not have a passenger lift and is consequently only considered suitable for people who are fully ambulant.

What the care home does well People live in a comfortable and safe environment. Their varied and at times challenging needs are met by a dedicated team who have a great wealth of experience in the management of mental health needs. Comment cards received from people who use the service and those who work at the home confirm they are happy with the care provided and comments included; "I can do what I want, they feed us well. The food is usually very good. When there is an occasional bad meal you can complain. A lot of effort goes on regarding the cooking." And "The home respects the rights of the individuals to live their lives how they want to, solong as they don`t endanger themselves or others." Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: The purpose of this inspection was to look at admission, assessment and health and safety in the home. During the visit Mr and Mrs Tait the owner and manager of the home explained that all people who are admitted are assessed before they move in. They feel that they are given good information from the placing agency to decide if they can meet peoples needs at Sabre Court. Sabre Court provides a comfortable home for the people who live there. The people in the home are properly assessed before they are admitted and staff have a good understanding of an individuals health and mental health needs. People who live at the home present a variety of different needs, which the home meet well. Presently individuals do not attend college or vocational placements but they all regularly access Scarborough and surrounding communities with support from the staff where they need it. There is an informal and relaxed atmosphere in the home, individuals observed during the inspection were clearly comfortable. Mr and Mrs Tait were seen interacting with people who live at the home, they were calm, supportive and always treated each person with empathy and dignity. During this visit we also looked around the home and reviewed some health and safety records. The health and safety documents reviewed were found to be up to date and complete, these included the gas and electricity safety certificates and the homes insurance certificate, which was displayed. A tour of the environment confirmed that the home was comfortable and met the needs of people who live at the home. It was also evident that regular maintenance is carried out and that decoration is kept up to. What the care home does well: People live in a comfortable and safe environment.
