We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service, staff who work at the service and from other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. The previous key inspection report of 29 December 2008. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was very well completed and returned in good time. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and other information we had about the service and our judgement is that Saxon Lodge is still providing a good service. We received completed surveys from four people living at Saxon Lodge, some of which had been completed by their relative, and eight surveys from staff. Although very few actual comments were made by people living at Saxon Lodge, they did indicate overall satisfaction with the service and care provided. People indicated that they were able to make decisions about their day to day life. One person said, I cannot communicate but the staff know all my favourite foods and activities and they help me to participate. Staff surveys contained very positive comments about the home. They indicated that good systems were in place in respect of recruitment and that they had the required knowledge to enable them to meet peoples needs. Of what Saxon Lodge does well, staff made the following comments, Provide comprehensive plan of support for each individual. Is committed to a person centered approach. Has a highly motivated staff team and provides each service user with a diverse programme of activities appropriate to individual needs. Each service user is treated with dignity and respect and treated as an individual. Staff have a lot of time for the services users and nothing it too much trouble. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 It is a caring environment and a pleasant place to work, I feel the training is educational and useful. Consistently maintains high standards in meting all the diverse and complex needs of all our service users. Of what could be improved, one survey completed by a person living at Saxon Lodge stated, Although the Home is clean, the maintenance and decoration are disgraceful. Staff surveys also contained comments about the need to improve the environment. The manager had detailed in the AQAA that the plans for improvement over the next twelve months included the redecoration of all communal areas and to replace the lounge carpet The AQAA detailed that there had been no complaints since the last inspection. The surveys completed by people living at Saxon Lodge showed that they knew what to do if they wanted to make a complaint and who they would talk to if they were unhappy. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. The service is managed in a way that shows it has the interests of the people using the service at the centre of what they do. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. This annual service review has shown that Saxon Lodge offers the people who live there a very good service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 29 December 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
