No Annual Service Review Page 2 of 5 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assessment Assurance (AQAA) that was sent to us by this service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. Any surveys that have been returned to us from people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service manages any complaints. What the management has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and any results from visits that we may have made to the service in the past twelve months. Relevant information from other organisations. Any information from other people about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home Manager has completed and returned the AQAA in the requested time. The information on this document gives us a picture of the service provided. It tells us that any potential residents are assessed for their care needs prior to admission and that a risk assessment is completed on the person and the homes environment to ensure that the home is suitable and can meet that persons needs. It tells us that any interested person is invited to visit and is offered a service users guide and statement of purpose to enable them to make a decision about the home. Care plans are written and kept up to date with reviews on a regular basis to enable staff to offer the care required for the individual. Medication is managed and recorded correctly for safety and the home is supported by local GPs. We are told that residents social interests are recorded and planned activities, entertainment and monthly newsletters are all available. The meals are provided with likes and dislikes taken into consideration. Special dietary needs are catered for and drinks and snacks are available at anytime. The home has a complaints procedure that the Manager tells us is on display in the entrance to the home and that time is spent with residents explaining the way they can complain or share any concerns knowing they will be listened to and the complaint acted upon. The AQAA tells us that all staff are POVA and CRB checked prior to appointment and that all staff are trained in the awareness of abuse. The home have the telephone numbers of the safeguarding team displayed in the staff room so that staff have access to this team at any time. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 This document also tells us that the home is safe and maintained by regular servicing and repairs kept up to date. A fire safety audit was conducted on the 17/11/09 and that all areas complied with fire safety requirements. The home has had new laundry equipment installed and risk assessments have been written to ensure all areas of the homes environment is as safe as it can be. We are told there are no offensive odours around the home and that it is clean and tidy. The AQAA also tells us that some areas are in need of decorating. The Manager tells us that there is the correct levels of staff on duty at all times to meet the needs of the residents. 4 of the staff have a suitable NVQ 2 qualification and the Senior staff have NVQ 3. Robust, safe recruitment procedures are followed with good induction and training in place for all staff. A list of all the courses covering dates over the last twelve months show all health and safety subjects have been covered by staff. Additional courses in death and dying, dementia and NVQ are either in progress or completed. The Manager tells us she has completed the Safer Workplace training and has received a visit from Better Business Coach who has commented on the good policies and procedures in place. Improvements to the service provided is constantly being looked at and worked planned to make the home a better place. We have not received any complaints about this service and no surveys or comments have been received from people who use this home. Notifications that should be sent to the commission under regulation 37 have not been received. It is not certain if this is due to no incidents or deaths in 2009 or if the home has not sent any. This will need to be looked into by the Manager to ensure the correct information is being received by the Commission. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue to carry out a Key Inspection by 21/10/10. However, we may carry out an Inspection at any time if information received gives us concern.
