What the care home does well People are fully involved in life at the home and are able to make decisions on a daily basis. Meetings are held every month and people are able to make both suggestions and decisions about how the home is run. The registered manager and the support workers have a very good understanding of the support needs of those living at Self Unlimited Bagatelle and they provide that support in a relaxed and sensitive manner. Each person has a person centred plan, this gives information about their care needs and how they are supported, it shows what they like to do both during the day and during the evening,it shows the activities they like to do and what and who is important to them. People are able to do their own washing, cleaning and cooking, a meeting is held every week to decide what meals people want and they are then supported to go food shopping. Support workers are provided with a comprehensive induction and training programme to make sure that they can do their job properly and they meet with the registered manager on a regular basis to discuss how they are getting on. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: We visited Self Unlimited Bagatelle to check that the service was continuing to provide excellent outcomes for the people living there and that the people living there continue to be satisfied with the care and support they receive. We checked the records belonging to the most recent person to move into the home to check the current assessment process. We found that the registered manager had obtained as much information as possible about the person prior to them moving in, meetings had been held where the person had been able to share their hopes and aspirations and a number of visits to the home had been arranged, which included overnight stays, so that the person could get to know what life was like at Self Unlimited Bagatelle and to meet the other people living there. We spoke with the people currently living at Self Unlimited Bagatelle to gather their views of the care and support that they currently receive and to find out if they are involved in day to day decisions. They told us: We get on well, we have a meeting every Friday, weve got one tomorrow, its a menu meeting and we decide what to have for the week. We shop for food and have a cleaning rota. Im going to do woodwork today at Shangton and I go to college to do photography every Wednesday. I can do my own washing and cleaning. You can talk to the staff and they listen. We looked at the recruitment file of a member of staff who had been employed within the last twelve months, to check the recruitment procedures that are followed. We found that all the necessary checks had been carried out, including a police check and suitable references. We also found that they had worked through a comprehensive induction and training programme to ensure that they had the appropriate skills and knowledge to carry out their role effectively. We looked at whether support workers had received training in the Safeguarding of Adults. Records checked showed that this is provided during their induction period and a support worker spoken with was aware of the actions they should take, should they have any concerns. People told us that they felt safe living at Self Unlimited Bagatelle with one person explaining, They treat me well, all the staff do. We checked the accommodation and found this to be of a good standard, it was well decorated and provided a comfortable and homely place to live. New windows have been installed at the front of the house and the registered manager told us that they have been given the go ahead to create a wet room on the ground floor and further Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 4 of 8 redecoration this year.
